At first look, you might not think this minimalist stay in Berlin’s hip Kantstrasse-set neighbourhood was once a women’s prison. But inside, there are just a few details that stick to the original courthouse features (cells have been turned into rooms, and large windows have been expanded for more natural light) but there’s also a new feel, one of open-living, clean spaces and contemporary design. There’s a lot of life too – a rooftop terrace to a billiard room, a library to a sauna, and there are often art exhibitions too. Rooms are comfortable and clean (literally and aesthetically) and are perfect as a base for a city break or for crashing into after a feast in Lovis Restaurant downstiars.
