The Rebello, meaning ‘little tail’, nods to the wooden boats that carried barrels of local wine down from the ancient vines of the Douro Valley to the port houses of Gaia. A new Porta pad but with some soul, the approach here is local yet thoughtful, intentional but big on approach. In a former 19th-century warehouse, 103 bedrooms lie right on Porto’s riverbank with a view of the Douro River and its framing terracotta tiles of old Porto. It can feel contemporary, or maybe more modern in thinking, but in a city like Porto, history beats loudly.
