Staays

This South Tyrol hideaway restores and bigs up its original '70s interiors and Othman Barth-designed architecture. Curved around the oh-so-pretty Lake Caldaro, the space is filled with sunshine yellows and tangerines, repping cult vintage furniture and lighting from Japanese and Italian designers. There’s a real feel-good factor here: retro but never novelty. It’s certainly groovy too, we know Slim Aarons would have liked it. Pop downstairs to the bio sauna at the Badehaus spa (it’s very Palm Springs meets James Bond), take a dip in the heated pool or grab a paddle board at the lake. Tired? Settle down in your room with a view. This hotel makes for a particularly good pit stop if you’re heading out on a road trip.
