There's something seriously special about this 18th-century pile on one of the seven hills of Lisbon. And up high above the Portuguese capital – with deliciously good views of the Pantheon and the Tagus River – Santa Clara benefits from its location in one of the prettiest squares in the city while also being far enough away from the main madness of the Chiado. Inside, it's all about the aesthetics – stripped-back limestone walls, duck egg blues, grainy linens – from local architect Manuel Aires Mateus and designer Antonio Citterio. It feels more like summering at your best friend's townhouse, and with only six rooms too you'll become friendly with other guests who are there for open-plan slow living, impeccable design and lots of port and tonics when the sun shines (which just happens to be for most of the year).
