The highest hotel in France also happens to be one of the most special. But it’s remote. In the winter, getting there requires a lift in the gondola, which takes you 2,551 metres high to this former cable-car-turned-covetable-chalet. And once you’re there, all time stops. Inside, it’s comfortable and cosy in typical Alpine smartness – thick woods, soft fabrics – and a touch of contemporary cool. After days on the slopes, the spa is the only place to be. It helps that the restaurants (Le Refuge and Le Petit Refuge) are delicious too, so there’s no real need to ever leave.
