From two siblings, one being the founder of cool Casa Bonay in Barcelona, Portella is a fresh take on a 17th-century house in Palma de Mallorca’s old town. Before its hotel transformation, the building was a museum for Spanish painter Joaquín Torrents Lladó. But now it’s seen design firm Festen take over the interiors – you can expect lots of creamy walls and muted shades paired with Mallorcan glassware, thick marbles and subtle pops of colour (the blue sofa in the bar is of note). It’s petit, with only 14 rooms, but it’s the peace and quiet guests fall in love with, so much so they like to stay in their rooms often cooking dinner in the kitchenette. You’re looked after here, from pillow preference, tapas recommendations or the best beaches for bright blues.
