La Posta Vecchia Hotel is the definition of La Dolce Vita, made better by the fact this living museum villa was once the private home of Jean Paul Getty and is now run by hotelier magnate Marie-Louise Scio. Hidden away on the Palo Laziale coastline, the old-world 21-room mansion is only a 40-minute drive from Rome. But you wouldn’t think the Eternal City is that close because instead, you’ll feel more like you’re in a Fitzgerald novel, far enough removed from the buzz and stuffed-to-the-brim with glamorous detail. Pucci-wearing guests love to sip Negronis on the black-and-white striped lawn chairs for aperitivo during any season (we love it in October). They equally love a slow morning reading the Pellicano Post before exploring a nearby Etruscan site. It’s a place to stay put, and rightly so.
