La Mirande is a smart affair, and its fitting location in the City of Popes stands strong today: it was built by the representatives of the Pope to receive the city's notables and high dignitaries passing through the city in the 14th century. Now, it’s a pretty grand and pretty impressive stay. Bedrooms are decked out with billowing fabrics, while bathrooms veer towards La Belle Époque – thick-cut marble, and fanciful faucets. But most importantly, food is put front and centre. Breakfast is a moment – scenes of still-life fruits, crusty-cut bread and café on tap in the gardens. It’s a place to go big, especially with a special farm-to-table dinner in the old kitchen. Impressive, to say the least.
