This is a typical Parisian hotel but with a very Japanese twist. Right there in the 2nd arrondissement is Hotel Hana, and it’s also smack dab in the city’s Little Tokyo neighbourhood that’s famed for its far-east hot spots and Japanese community. On one street you might pass a handroll bar on the other a tiny restaurant where regulars slurp bowls of ramen at the counter. And this 25-room stay fits right in. Under the creative director Oliver Leone and interior designer Laura Gonzalez, the two created a space of calm with clean lines, curvaceous walls and lots of handcrafted pieces. But it also blends minimalism with French details – headboards are velvet, bathrooms are filled with terracotta marble and the drinks are strong. Pulling yourself away from the rooms is hard but enough of a reason is the restaurant downstairs. Delicate and delicious, the menu mixes the best of the two countries: langoustine udon, wagyu au poivre, and shoestring fries dusted with nori.
