Staays

Somewhere or other, someone has a secret from Gstaad Palace. The snow queen of Gstaad’s turreted hotels, this literal palace on the hill (rather Swiss Alps) has over 100 years of history inside its walls. It also has a swimming pool so iconic it was the hottest place to be in 1928 for its Côte d’Azur flair but in the mountains feel. And while it’s all a bit pastiche in the fairytale sense, it’s as classic as they come, with lots of British interior nods and a well-oiled white-gloved team who are discreet in knowing which guests from the international set slip up to their rooms after at night at GreenGo (the 70s-inspired club downstairs). It’s grand, it’s sparkly and it’s got some of the best cheese fondue around.
