Set in an ancient fortress once destined for surveillance of the Bay of Palma, Cap Rocat is not your average hotel. It’s quiet here – really quiet – a deliberate move from the team behind the hotel (they’re right in the middle of a 30-hectare nature reserve surrounded by a marine-protected coast). With an emphasis on peace and privacy, the Mallorcan spot is a favourite for those who like to swap busy lifestyles for some R&R. The original architecture is beautifully imposing, with thick stone, secret watchtowers and courtyards spread around 22 more contemporary rooms. It’s hard to leave the spa – carved out the rocks, 12 metres below ground –but why would you want to leave at all when you’re practically in a castle on a hill?
